Greenwich World Hunger Association (GWHA) was founded in 1976. After a series of meetings on global poverty at local Greenwich, CT churches, a small group of people got together to discuss ways they might be part of the solution to hunger. In its early years GWHA sponsored programs and lectures, encouraged annual days of fast, and organized hunger walks in which several hundred Greenwich residents participated to raise awareness and funds. In recent years the focus of GWHA has been on helping people increase their food supplies and income through self-sustaining projects managed by trusted individuals or small, local organizations.
